The Buttons

The unit has three buttons: UP, DOWN, and PAUSE.

CoppelBox unit: the three front-panel buttons

Only one button at a time

The buttons share a single detection circuit, so the unit can only recognise one button press at a time — there's no "press two buttons together" gesture. Every action below is a single button, held or pressed in sequence.

Everyday use

  • UP switches between the relay screen (the default/home screen) and the Device Info screen, which shows the unit's claim code and MAC address. This only works once the unit is registered to the cloud — see The OLED Screen.
  • DOWN briefly shows the unit's firmware version and which firmware slot it's running from, then returns to the relay screen automatically after 5 seconds (or as soon as any button is pressed).
  • PAUSE, pressed and released quickly (under 2 seconds), turns the on-device WiFi setup hotspot on or off — see Connectivity for using this to connect the unit to your WiFi.

Recovery: revert to factory (identity preserved)

If a unit is misbehaving, you can revert it to its original factory firmware without losing anything — your network settings, cloud identity, certificates, and configuration are all preserved, and the unit reconnects automatically afterwards.

  1. Hold PAUSE. Releasing before 2 seconds just does the normal WiFi-hotspot toggle above — nothing else happens.
  2. Keep holding past 2 seconds and a countdown appears on screen. Releasing anywhere before 10 seconds cancels — nothing happens.
  3. At 10 seconds, a confirmation screen appears: "SURE? / UP=REVERT", with a 10-second countdown.
  4. Press UP within that window to confirm. The unit reboots into its factory firmware.
    • Pressing DOWN, pressing PAUSE again, or letting the 10 seconds run out cancels instead.

Nothing is erased by this gesture

This only changes which firmware the unit boots into. Your WiFi credentials, relay settings, and cloud connection are untouched.

Wipe owner data

This clears a unit's local settings — saved WiFi network and password, custom relay names, and the environmental (Ivy) board's saved network address — while keeping the unit registered to your account. Use this if you're moving a unit to a different site and want a clean slate for its local settings, or before returning/reassigning a unit.

  1. From the relay screen, press UP to go to the Device Info screen.
  2. Hold UP for 3 seconds (nothing changes on screen yet).
  3. A confirmation screen appears: "ERASE? / UP=YES", with a 10-second countdown.
  4. Press UP again within that window to confirm.
    • Pressing DOWN, pressing PAUSE, or letting the 10 seconds run out cancels instead.

What this does and doesn't affect

Cleared: saved WiFi network/password, relay names, and the saved Ivy board address. Not affected: the unit's cloud registration, certificates, and its place in your account/organization.

After confirming, the unit will need reconnecting to a network — Ethernet reconnects on its own, but WiFi will need setting up again via the hotspot (see Connectivity).

Confirm / cancel

Both gestures above follow the same pattern:

  • Arm by holding the trigger button for the required time — nothing is shown on screen until the hold completes.
  • Confirm by pressing the button named on the resulting screen, within the 10-second countdown shown.
  • Cancel at any point by pressing a different button, or simply waiting for the countdown to run out.
