Working with a Device

This page covers day-to-day work with a single device: switching relays, viewing power detail, and — for administrators — the device settings window.

Controlling relays (1–6)

  1. On the Fleet Dashboard, click the device's card to select it (blue border). In the compact list view, tapping a row to expand it selects it too.
  2. Click a relay button:
    • a normal relay toggles on/off (green = on, grey = off);
    • a pulse relay fires one timed pulse and releases itself (used for things like power-cycling a router).
  3. While the command is in flight the button flashes blue; it settles to the new state once the device confirms.

You need the Editor role or above to control relays, and the device must be online. Hover a disabled button for the reason ("View only", "Select device first", or "Device offline").

Power monitoring

Click a live power reading on a tile (the blue 🏠 internal or purple 🌐 external kW figure) to open the power monitoring window. It charts the meter's history for your chosen time range across these measurements:

  • Power (kW)
  • Voltage (V)
  • Current (A)
  • Energy (kWh)
  • Frequency (Hz)
  • Power Factor

You can show the internal meter, the external meter, or both, export the charted data to CSV, and calculate the energy (kWh) consumed between two dates.

Opening device settings

Administrators see a cog icon in the top-right of each device tile. Click it to open the device settings window.

Device settings

The window is tabbed (tabs vary by device type):

TabWhat it's for
Relay SettingsName each relay and set its mode and pulse time.
Firmware & CertificatesFirmware version and updates; certificate status; warranty dates; reboot.
DiagnosticsMemory / system / network health charts (24h, 7d, 30d).
HistoryThe device's lifecycle audit trail.
SettingsCore record: name, organisation, location, SIM details; delete device.

Relay configuration & naming

On the Relay Settings tab each relay (numbered 1–6) has:

  • Label — a friendly name up to 15 characters (e.g. "Router", "Heater"). This name appears on the relay's button on the dashboard tile; unnamed relays show as R1R6.
  • ModeNormal (on/off) or Pulse (momentary only).
  • Default Pulse — for pulse relays, how long the pulse lasts: adjustable from 100 ms up to 30 s.

Select Save All to send the configuration to the device. The device must be online to save — if it's offline you'll see "Device is offline — changes cannot be saved until it reconnects."

Naming hint

If you name a relay "router", the editor suggests Pulse mode automatically — routers are almost always power-cycled with a pulse rather than switched off.

Apply Config (Admins and Super-Users): instead of configuring relays one by one, you can apply a saved config preset to the device. Choose the preset and select Apply — it overwrites the device's whole relay configuration. If the device is online the change is pushed immediately; otherwise it's picked up on the device's next connection (about 20 seconds after it comes online). Presets are managed on the Config Presets admin screen.

Firmware, certificate & reboot

On the Firmware & Certificates tab:

  • Firmware — shows the Current version and the Latest available, with a status of Up to date or Update available. If an update is available (also flagged by the orange up-arrow on the dashboard tile), select Start Update. The device downloads the new firmware (roughly a minute), reboots, and the tab confirms "Updated to vX.Y.Z successfully". The device must be online to update.
  • Certificate — the device's security certificate status, shown as days remaining until renewal, with its expiry date. Certificates renew through the platform; the Rotate Certificate button is only available to master-organisation users.
  • Device ManagementReboot Device restarts the unit remotely (you'll be asked to confirm; the device drops offline briefly and reconnects).

Device history

The History tab is a read-only audit trail of the device's life on the platform — newest first. Each entry shows the event (for example Config changed), who or what performed it (a user, or system), and when. Entries with extra detail expand when clicked; select Load more to page further back.

Warranty & dates

Also on the Firmware & Certificates tab, the Warranty & Shipping section shows:

  • Provision date — when the device was first registered at the factory.
  • Ship date — when it was shipped (shows Not set until recorded). Only Super-Users can edit this.
  • Warranty end — one year from the ship date, or from the provision date if no ship date is recorded. The row states which date it's counted from.

Editing the device record

The Settings tab (administrators) holds the device's core record:

  • Organization — which organisation the device belongs to.
  • Device Name — the display name (minimum 3 characters).
  • Device Type and Number of Relays — 4 or 6 relays depending on hardware variant.
  • Location — free text, e.g. "Building A, Floor 2" (searchable on the dashboard).
  • SIM Card ID (CCID) and Phone Number (MSISDN) — for cellular-connected units.

Select Update Device to save.

Danger Zone

At the bottom of the Settings tab, Delete Device permanently removes the device and all its data. You must confirm the deletion a second time. This cannot be undone.
